How To Make Night Splints For Plantar Fasciitis

The following article is about a common but very painful disorder of the foot that causes inflammation and intense pain in the sole. The areas affected are layers of connective tissues known collectively as the plantar fascia and they become damaged when feet are overstretched or overused. If the condition is left untreated it will most likely get worse over time. For this reason, your doctor will suggest you purchase or make night splints for plantar fasciitis.

This type of damage on the appendage's sole can be caused by many different things from weighing too much or being pregnant to wearing footwear with poor arch supports often. Although, the most common incidences are reported by older men who participate in long-distance jogging.

Although splints can be easily purchased in any grocery or drug stores, some people choose to make them themselves instead. To begin, take a thick material such as gauze and wrap it tightly around the shin bones and feet of the affected legs.

If you have a hard flat object, preferably the same shape as the foot, insert it under your foot before you start wrapping it. This will help make sure that the foot stays in the same place throughout the night.

Take an extra tall tube sock that you do not mind ruining and punch two small holes through the top of it by the sole and two additional holes roughly two inches from the item's top by the elastic. Next, take a large rubber cord or shoelaces and insert it through the sock's holes. Tighten the elastic band until you begin to feel the appendage getting stretched up and then attach its ends together.

If you do not wish to make permanent alterations to your tube sock, you an instead stretching the elastic cord or shoelaces up over the foot and then attaching with masking tape.
