The Best Gracie
Who is Royce Gracie?
Well, for the mixed martial arts fans this name would not need any introduction. but for other people who haven't heard of him, let me give you a brief biography of this unbelievably one of the greatest mixed martial arts fighter ever.
Royce Gracie was born in December 12, 1966 and is a professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner. He is widely regarded as one of the best fighters in MMA history.
Gracie became well-known within the mid 1990s having a series of submission victories over substantially larger opponents in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). In between 1993 and 1994, he won 11 matches by submission and was the tournament winner of UFC 1, UFC 2, UFC 4, and fought to a draw with Ken Shamrock inside the superfight at UFC 5. These results contributed to the motion towards grappling, cross-training and mixed martial arts.
Royce is a member of the Gracie family. Royce realized Jiu-Jitsu from his father and his older brothers Rorion, Relson, and Rickson Gracie. A year later he was invited by his brother Rorion to enable teach Jiu-Jitsu from his garage in America. He competed in a variety of Jiu-Jitsu tournaments in Brazil and also the United States and compiled an amateur record of 51-3. Royce received his black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the age of 18.
I 1st caught wind of this guy, Royce (pronounced like Hoyce - hey, do not ask me, the man is Brazilian!) Gracie at the initial ever Ultimate Fighting Championship. I was fairly impressed, I have to say.
First off, for a little history lesson. When young Royce was just a kid, his grandfather Helio taught him everything he needed to know to kick butt. At age eight, small Royce began competing in tournaments.
So, here I am at the 1st ever UFC tournament watching this guy I by no means heard of armbaring males so significantly larger than he was, they looked like they could eat him for breakfast. I remember thinking, is this hombre for real? He was skinny and did not look too strong.
Brainchild of Rorion Gracie and Art Davie, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was an eight-man single-elimination tournament with very few guidelines that would award $50,000 towards the winner. The fundamental premise was to locate out how distinct styles of martial arts would fare against each other. Art Davie placed advertisements in martial arts magazines and sent letters to any person in any martial arts directory he could uncover to recruit competitors for the event. Among the takers were kickboxer Patrick Smith, Pancrase fighter Ken Shamrock, and Savate planet champion Gerard Gordeau.
You see, I usually heard you get two guys, both of them skilled along with the larger hombre wins, 9 occasions out of 10. That is how it is supposed to work, right? Not with Royce. I saw him get hammered one time against a monster named Dan Severn. He need to have outweighed Gracie close to fifty kilos! Severn picked Gracie up and slammed him back down towards the mat a dozen times. He was on top of him the complete match. I along with the rest of us onlookers couldn't believe what happened. Gracie got him in an arm bar and that was that. Victory for Gracie and Brazilian Jujitsu. Everyone was shocked.
While Art Davie felt that Royce's older brother Rickson Gracie, who was stronger and much more skilled than Royce, was the apparent selection as the Jiu-Jitsu representative, Rorion Gracie chose Royce to represent the loved ones style. {At 175 pounds, and with a frame substantially smaller than his opponents, the Gracie loved ones felt that Royce could be the perfect fighter to demonstrate the claims that Jiu-Jitsu techniques nicely be} employed to overcome a larger opponent.

exceptional grappling skills in his first-round submission win over Patrick Smith.|} right away rushed Shamrock, who sprawled effectively and got on top of Royce.|} try the exact same finishing hold he put to use to finish his 1st match, but Royce rolled on top of him and secured a rear choke that forced Shamrock to tap the mat in submission.|} Shamrock has later stated that Gracie {used|utilized|employed|utilised|applied|put to use} his gi suit as a tool for ligature strangulation to {perform|carry out} the submission, protesting the {fact|reality|truth} that he was not allowed to wear his wrestling shoes towards the fact|since|mainly because|for the reason that} the event organisers had stated that it rather nicely be} {used|utilized|employed|utilised|applied|put to use} as a weapon, feeling that the {rules|guidelines} for the tournament {were|had been|have been} {created|produced|developed|designed} to favor Gracie.
