Cam McHargue
Cam began his martial arts career by participating in a few "Toughman" type competitions back in the late 80s/early 90s. These were kickboxing events because in the early days of these type of competitions in the Columbus, GA and LaGrange, GA area they allowed kicking.
Having no formal training and ultimately being unsuccessful, Cam gave up martial arts altogether for a few years and concentrated on his musical career. After seeing the first few UFCs Cam had renewed interest in the martial arts and diligently pursued ground fighting and submission grappling teaching himself entirely from instructional video tapes.
Having been disillusioned by the state of the music industry Cam started focusing his free energy toward MMA competition. He entered many MMA tournaments on the local GA scene between 1998 and 2001 and enjoyed quite a bit of success. After being introduced to Matthew Waller and Joel Chavous of The Submission Fighting Open tournaments that he had participated in, Cam began to train occasionally at the Academy of Fighting Arts in Griffin with Joel and John Wehby and signed on under the management of Waller's Gauntlet Productions.
Cam quit his job as a computer graphics designer and moved to Griffin in 2001 (originally from Valley, AL) to train and teach full time. He got his black belt under Joel in June of 2002 and under the guidance of Joel and Matthew managed to capture a few professional titles in that same year. Cam is also an official MMA referree for The International Sport Combat Federation.
Cam has experience in both striking and grappling arts and has trained a number of successful fighters. Cam is still an active competitor and though he maintains an active personal training schedule, he takes time to ensure that al fighters receive the guidance and instruction they require.
Among Cam's wins are:
Submission Fighting Open 2 Middleweight Tournament Champion
