When And How Did MMA Begin?
A majority of individuals get an idea of martial arts and the beginning of MMA matches they believe of Korean, Chinese, and Japanese fighting styles and martial arts competitions in China and Japan that pitted various schools against each other. Nevertheless physical combat has been around since the beginning of time. For those that believe in creation, the story of Cain killing his brother Able is 1 of the first stories and events within the bible. After that, while stories of many ancient battles depict individuals between legions of armed spears and swords you are able to be sure those pitched battles needed some serious hand-to-hand combat that needed much more training and guts to survive than anything anyone experiences within the UFC octagon today.
Look at the Romans and Greeks. Possibly they were the very first known civilizations that really developed unarmed combat training. Still even in the octagon these days you will find the remains of Greco-Roman wrestling, from tournaments held thousands of years ago. You are able to also be sure that surviving on the streets throughout individuals times was a lot tougher than it is these days, especially without good communications for law enforcement and no street lights, a time when even 1 Roman Emperor secretly snuck out at night to kill for fun.
Then you have the legendary gladiator tournaments that were perhaps the primary mixed martial arts tournaments, throwing together warriors from all over the recognized world in towards the arena for fights towards the death. Fighters where brought to Rome to perform from Africa, Asia and Europe, each with their own unique style. Surely if any of these warriors were resurrected these days they would laugh at the octagon and today´s MMA competitions. Rules? There were none. Submissions, tap outs? Winning back then meant killing your opponent. Besides the hand to hand combat, unarmed fighters were often thrown up against armed assailants and even tigers and lions. Forget fighting for a championship belt, either you won or had been killed. How´s that for motivation?
Envision the top condition you had to be in to fight in throughout those times. Plus there had been no steroids, supplements or weightlifting and as these fighters were prisoners you are able to bet there wasn´t much of a choice of diet, or particularly the luxury of eating 6 to 7 times a day. So, when you feel like yapping in the gym, and you want to blame your undesirable physical condition on the fact that eating healthy is just too costly or feel like giving up within the octagon, remember where MMA training truly comes from and stop feeling sorry for yourself.
How do you feel about MMA's direction?
We are living in the wrestling era. Where fighters specifically train to go that distance, and not risk a loss, by holding their opponent down, and winning by decision. On one hand, MMA fans say that it's a sport, where in the athletes should have a mindset focused on winning, not necessarily one based on providing entertainment. On the other hand, MMA fans say that a sport needs to have some entertainment value in order to be enjoyed and practiced. That they want to see a fight, and not see a man humping competition for 25 minutes.
Where do you stand on the issue? Is it ruining MMA? Or do MMA fighters just need to learn to adapt and find ways to combat wrestlers better.
[ 'We' ???? maybe not so much lol ]
Good Point KW !!
hmm well, is it a coincidence that MM is WW upside down? or that the guy hawked it as Bruce Lee's invention? or that there are supposed World Champions who dont even put their hand up to flick aside a teleCOMMUNICATED!! apparently-choreographed aerial grazing 'kick' and that they use their preparation time to lean away from the easily thwartable 'technique' ? or that when they pummel each other there isnt any much effect? well its athleticism but not like any oriental discipline- its a contrived spectator sport/ entertainment-
and Anderson Silva is ~the best?? grim...
had read through GSP's book , and although the title was unfortunate, he seemed a decent sort- havent met him personally-then- he put VASELINE in his pores before a match???? is that why a person with a french name is called 'greaser' by his detractors?mean and nasty if its a false rumor- and very hilarious and camp, if it is true. just the rumor is good for the 'sport' because essentially, its remarkably boring; it needs drama - or something-
a good idea that the matches are so brief- it draws away from the fact of their boringness.
see, mma has a BIG problem (well maybe several lol)- even the huckster said its 'Bruce Lee's ' creation.... so try and sell it as part of Master Lee's Legacy.
Which is a very nice complement to Bruce Lee by the way.
Bruce Lee was very dedicated and conscientious, and also somewhat of a ham. But look at the people he worked with- Kareem, GrandMaster Norris, and others- and you clearly see Lee's genuineness in his interviews and read it in his writings- AND SEE IT IN HIS FILMS- hmm
and the MMA fans can see it too. and they can see the differences.
hard to ruin something that wasnt any good to begin with..
well, they need to be less careless with the massively and blatantly unrealistic stuff.
like laying there and using up the clock- gee- sort of like NFL and NBA huh?
EXCEPT, no one cares because there isnt a bunch o other stuff and half-time show to take up the lulls- the only 'action' is if the two participants are actually doing something.
the whole gracie thing, with the mean grimaces and the over-the top tattooing,
what they did was take a small segment of Judo play and concentrate on it and name/ rename the techniques, and then concentrate entirely on that, then invent a sport which dis-allows all the simple and obvious counters to what they did/do - and milk it for all they can get.
BUT people can see real karate and kung fu and judo and sumo buy looking online, and by watching movies. Even unskilled people can observe the disparity. And they are fickle fans..
**basically, very indifferent- its a waste of resources. and on the other hand it generates some interest in real disciplines too but it does crowd out real stuff, and that along with all the new 'sokes' that try and pass off what they do as authentic or excellent when they dont even know how to do sidekicks and obviously havent ever been taught by anyone authentic, hoping that no one will know the difference or care, and the very poor skills generally seen in american organisations, and belt / rank inflation, maybe not so good..
And people can see the difference in skill by watching a movie or two
MMA needs to be a better circus, or be a better sport. Or be supplanted by something more interesting and viable- but the people who have been milking it for $$$ arent going to want to adapt because they wouldnt be calling the orders and making the policies any more.
the few players who get publicity are having professional careers in athletics- and probably havent much to say about anything, if they want to have matches scheduled
boredom also tends to set in when the same very few people keep being re-cycled - the ones with the entertainment contracts...
and they cant make it too elite because they need the fans to keep paying to watch MMA and buying all the MMA souvenirs and accessories instead of good action movies
the unrealistic limitations favoring people deliberately laying on their backs and running out the clock, doesnt make for good entertainment. and good entertainment keeps the fans happy-
and they are fickle fans
